Lasik Laser Side Effects
Lasik Laser surgery is commonly performed and generally safe however one needs to be aware of the possible side-effects and the risk of complications.
There are certain short term side effects of laser eye surgery and may be more noticeable on some patients than on other patients. Under Short term side effects, the eyes may feel mild discomfort or pain for the first two or three days and experience a tearing in the eye. Pink or red spots on the whites of one’s eyes could be spotted and the vision may turn hazy or blurry. There is a chance of eye dryness and one may experience glare from lights in the house or outside, a halo effect around lights and have difficulty with driving at night for the first month.
Nevertheless most of these short term side effects are mild in nature and generally disappear in few days.
There are few long-term side effects of Lasik Laser Eye Surgery like in certain cases; the patients may lose part or all of their vision as a result of the treatment. Some patients in spite of with good vision on the vision chart may develop permanent debilitating visual symptoms such as glare, halos, and/or double vision that can seriously affect night time vision or in fog. Some also develop severe dry eye syndrome which can be resolved through intensive drop therapy.
Some side effects of laser eye surgery may be caused by medications that one is administering for an existing illness while others may be attributed to age however statistics have shown that approximately 92% of patients have been satisfied with the laser eye surgery. However if one is considering a Lasik Laser Eye Surgery, it is better to discuss the possible risks and complications that may arise with the eye surgeon and get as much information before one reaches a decision.
